It's A Hard Life Alright
Some things are hard to do
Try eating a banana
in a quiet room
A big mushy mouthful
Try not disturb the industrious
screen starers
with the oral contortions
coming from you
Some things are hard to do
Try finding a decent apartment in Dublin
with decent furniture, central heating and light
or try sleeping soundly in the screeching night
Ear plugged in bed, submerged under sheets
Wondering if it’s STDed zombies on the streets
Some things are hard to do
Try ignoring grunting egomaniacs
those slobbering sacks of greed
who you’d rather punch in the face
and into it declare death to the rat race
or try getting that excuse for pop
out of your head
that was playing in the shop
when buying a scratch card and wholemeal bread
Some things are even harder to do
Try winning the lotto
now that seems to be the
hardest thing to do.
A true impossibility
it would seem
a lucky draw to live the dream.
